The Daily Drinker is the latest brilliant idea of Caspar and Victoria Bowes, a healthily wine-obsessed husband and wife team who have been in business together as Bowes Wine Limited since early 2002.
Bowes Wine manages portfolios of wine, both for future drinking and for investment, for a private client base, majoring on the expatriate markets in the Middle and Far East. Caspar's been involved in this kind of business since 1998 and he loves the travel, despite the fact that he always comes home feeling - and probably looking - like he's eaten his body weight in animal fat.
Victoria used to work for a large wine merchant in East Anglia, where she also made a name for herself terrorising the opposition on the hockey pitch. She plays tennis, runs and even regularly disappears to do something called power plate, which sounds as though it should be in one of Nigella's sturdier cupboards but was apparently invented for Russian astronauts.
Caspar plays tennis, but lacks his spouse's style. He's also an obsessive fisherman and will put fly to water without provocation wherever he can, including on honeymoon.
He also thinks the wine drinking habits of the public at large are being controlled by misguided wine writers and lazy wine buyers. He is determined to do something about this, hence The Daily Drinker.
