Agiorgitiko can be grown successfully in hot climates and is fashioned into varying styles of wine, from soft, low-acid, easy-going examples through to full-bore wines capable of great ageing. Also known as St George, Agiorgitiko - or Aghiorghitiko - is the most widely planted red variety in Greece.
Gaia's headquarters are on the island of Santorini, yet the fruit for this wine is grown in Nemea, on mainland Greece, where the reds may be made from no other variety than this.

Tasting Notes:
Medium deep purple-tinted ruby.
Good aromas of nut paste and dry spice and berryish ? almost pastille-like ? black fruit: cherry.
Something of the biscuit tin here, as well as a slightly (wood) smoky meatiness. The fruit on the palate also has something pastille-like about it. This is medium weight, nicely controlled. There?s an earthy minerality along the excellent length, especially towards the back. The tannins are welded to the fruit and are fine, a touch nutty in their richness.
Quite a modern style, but with plenty of character and that nuttiness appears again. Long, structured, pretty cool customer. Very nice. Lovely pure, fresh fruit aftertaste. Very nice freshness runs through this wine that is well-endowed with tannin.
One for food, without doubt. And there?s a hint of welcome bitterness. A leathery quality. Fabulous for a steak, duck, lamb.
