2016 Graciano , Bodegas Ondarre

2016 Graciano , Bodegas Ondarre
ref. ONDA160 APR19

Wine Variety: Graciano is a widespread variety having a great many synonyms, both in Spain (the country with which it is most associated) and elsewhere. Various varieties on Sardinia have proved to be identical - or very closely related to - Graciano and this migration probably occurred when the island was under Spanish rule from the early 14th to the early 18th century. Plantings have been shrinking since the late 19th century, but there is new-found interest in the variety.

Wine Region: This wine is from Rioja in northern Spain, the country's foremost producer of fine wine, by far the majority of which is red, of which the grape Tempranillo is the mainstay. Rioja's fame stems from the time of disease in the French vineyards when wine makers from France headed south to source wines and vineyards to service their thirsty markets.

Wine Producer: Bodegas Ondarre are part of the larger Grupo Bodegas Olarra. The Bodega is situated near Logroño, a town considered the capital of Rioja. Using modern wine making equipment, their aim is to produce clean, elegant and expressive wines from the region. Many vintages of their wines have been received awards around the world.

wine tasting notesTasting Notes:

Aromas here are of singe, dry and expressive. The fruit is dark and thoroughly spiced, plum and bramble. After a dry nose, one finds a dry palate, dense and highly structured. This is a really long wine and one that offers real density at the back end all the way through to an intense death, where a saline note lurks. A really satisfying mouthful of red wine.

#3wordtastingnote: dark, dense, saline
