2013 Lagyl Arba Saperavi, Arba Winery

2013 Lagyl Arba Saperavi, Arba Winery
ref. SAPE130

Wine Variety: This is clearly an ancient variety, since there are numerous clones in existence. This is the grape of Georgia, in the language of which country its name translates as "dye".

Wine Region: Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world and the largest that is landlocked. However, only a very small proportion of the country is suitable for wine growing as the climate in much of Kazakhstan is simply too extreme, being intensely continental i.e. very hot summers and very cold winters. There is a relatively recent trend for importing wine makers in an effort to make more international styles of wine.

Wine Producer: We're in the Assa Valley near Almaty some 2,500 meters above sea level. The vineyards - some 200 hectares farmed organically - are surrounded by the Tian-Shan mountains.

wine tasting notesTasting Notes:

Like a midnight in summer in the glass, with purple lighting the blackness. The nose is ultimately pure and of the loveliest black fruits: cherry and plum. It smells fresh...and then the palate offers the same level of snap and intent. The tannin appears very near the front and persuades one that food is the order of the day. Such freshness and purity! This is a very lovely thing, long and bright and beautifully balanced.

#3wordtastingnote: black cherry, beautiful, bright
