2014 Plaisir du Vin, Château Heritage

2014 Plaisir du Vin, Château Heritage
ref. BEKA140 SEP18

Wine Variety: This is one of those rare Daily Drinker wines i.e. a blend. I wanted to include this wine as it so deftly sums up the state of wine production in The Lebanon. And it's a fairly typical Lebanese blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Syrah.

Wine Region: The Lebanon is a country that has an extremely long history of wine growing. The iconic wine of the country is Château Musar, grown in the Bekaa Valley and it is the Bekaa Valley that people usually think of when thinking about Lebanese wine production. Valley is something of a misnomer, however, as the Bekaa is actually a plateau sitting at 1,000 metres above sea level. There is increasing interest in other regions of the country, including on Mount Lebanon.

Wine Producer: The Heritage winery was founded in 1997, the owners, the Touma family, having been distillers of the local arak since the late 19th century.

wine tasting notesTasting Notes:

The warmth of the Bekaa wraps itself around the nose of the taster, the scent coming across like a liqueur of orange-and-plum, slightly chocolaty fruit and adds a very domestic strawberry note later on. The palate up front is plush and full of rich sunshine-soaked fruit. But the whole effect comes into focus with a sudden lift of freshness and grip and tannin that adds welcome structure. I think Musar lovers will enjoy this enormously.
