2017 Nero Buono Polluce, Cincinatto

2017 Nero Buono Polluce, Cincinatto
ref. CINC170 AUT19

Wine Variety: Nero Buono is a dark-skinned variety coming from the commune of Cori in Lazio, where it is often blended with Montepulciano and/or Cesanese. Because of the intensity of the colour of its wine it is used for deepening the colour of lighter wines.

Wine Region: Lazio, home of Italy's capital, is a significant producer of wine, being the 6th most important region in terms of quantity. However, it is of declining significance and only a small proportion of what it makes is of DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) level. Wines are mostly white and from the Malvasia and Trebbiano grapes.

Wine Producer: In 1947 a group of wine growers in Cori, in the Italian region of Lazio, banded together to form a small co-operative. Today there are 126 growers in the co-operative working 250 hectares of vineyards.

wine tasting notesTasting Notes:

Very deeply coloured: a mulberry-ruby. Nose has decent tang and a spiced complication to the dark cherry and fresh plum fruit. There’s a scent like warm soil; hints of nut and biscuits. Palate starts cool, with a nice purity of dark plum fruit. Almond tannin appears half way through, rears more upright, becomes drier and a touch bitter. A long wine and, essentially, a dry one. Needs food…at this age, at least. Good to find a grape that’s new to me!

#3wordtastingnote: plum, tang, almond
