2018 Voskehat, ArmAs

2018 Voskehat, ArmAs
ref. VOSK180 SPR20

Wine Variety: Voskehat is an old Armenian grape variety that shows a great deal of diversity of form, indicating its longtime presence in the country. It is most commonly used to produce sweet fortified wines, and sometimes to produce sparkling wines. It is also grown for the table, but here used for still wine!

Wine Region: This part of the world is the cradle of global wine production. Armenia, a small former Soviet republic, grows a large quantity of grapes, but only approximately 15% of which is used for making wine. Its southerly latitudes mean that the climate is torrid, but vineyards are planted at altitude to temper this.

Wine Producer: Golden Grape ArmAs was founded in 2007 by Armenak Aslanian, but he was following a family trade that had begun with his grandfather 80 years before. ArmAs makes wine from a range of indigenous grapes, including the re hybrid variety Karmrahyut.

wine tasting notesTasting Notes:

Really pale and bright in the glass. And aromas are clean as a whip, a fascinating amalgam of citrus and orchard fruit, along with herbals twists. Not a familiar set of aromas. The palate offers distinct textural interest. This is dense across the tongue and through that density comes a lightly saline really exuberant acidity. This has tremendous character, is modern and very European in style. A lovely thing. Armenia a go-go!
