2017 Ancellotta Pixels, Corbeau Wines

2017 Ancellotta Pixels, Corbeau Wines
ref. CORB170 SUM20

Wine Variety: Ancellotta probably hails from Emilia Romagna,  where it has traditionally been used in concentrated form to bolster the lighter local wines. It is quite possibly named for the Lancellotti family who promoted the vine in the 15th century.

Wine Region: Wine grapes arrived in Argentina via various routes in the 16th century. Mendoza is the largest and most important wine region of the country. The climate is dry, with vineyards being irrigated. This huge region, in the west of the country only a short hop over the mountains from Chile, has both low-lying and more lofty vineyards, and produces everything from jug wine to serious wines for the cellar.

Wine Producer: Corbeau Wines is located in Mendoza, where they run 320 hectares of vineyards. This is a third-generation wine business.

wine tasting notesTasting Notes:

On first taste, I was well prepared to reject this. It had an overwhelmingly nutty character and a flatness that almost came over as stale. I bunged the screwcap back on it and parked it overnight. Going back to it the following evening was a revelation. It had cleaned itself up, becoming much more focused. It's a rich, creamy thing, yet it has a freshness within the dark bramble and chocolate fruit. This has an earthiness about it that is altogether pleasing. It's quite a big wine, yet the structure - both acidity and the lively tannins - keeps it from being overbearing.
