2019 Prestige Cuvée Rosé, Skouras

2019 Prestige Cuvée Rosé, Skouras
ref. SKOU190

Wine Varieties:
Agiorgitiko - A poll of winemakers in the Nemea region found that most consider it to be stylistically comparable to Merlot, thus having potential to be commercialised on international markets (under the name St George in English-speaking countries). The wine produced by Agiorgitiko varies enormously according to how much the vineyard is permitted to yield. Low yields make for more serious, structured and intense wines; higher yields produce something less complicated but easy to enjoy.
Moschofilero - The name of this grape refers to a whole series of genetically identical clones that nevertheless have markedly differing characteristics in terms of leaf shape, fruit colour etc. However, the most widely-planted version has pinkish skin when ripe and is capable of producing rosé wines, as well as white. Many vineyards contain a number of different clones. Moschofilero's home territory are vineyards at altitude in the Peloponnese.

Wine Region: The Peloponnese boasts the most wine appellations of any region and produces wine styles from light and white, to full-bodied red, sweet and sparkling. It has the advantage of having plateau'ed uplands, offering altitude and cooler temperatures than lower elevations.

Wine Producer: George Skouras studied agriculture in 1980 in Dijon, Burgundy, but fell in love with the local wines. He set up his own winery in 1986 in Nemea.

wine tasting notesTasting Notes:

Interesting colour: a pale cherry salmon in the glass. There are elements of nut and a wisp of cold ferment about the nose. Fruit nods towards peachiness with a hint of red domestic fruit, too. The palate offers superb density of fruit. A little light herbal note runs through this: through the nicely rich fruit density to the long finish where fresh acidity resides. It’s a lasting thing, one where the scrunch comes at the end, joined by a lift of peppery spice. Red fruit – cherry; red currant – offer a great deal of flavour. Through put is lightly chalky, a touch nutty. A crowd pleaser, I think.

#3wordtastingnote: red currant, nutty, crunch
