2019 Agiorgitiko Three Hills, Kokotos

2019 Agiorgitiko Three Hills, Kokotos
ref. KOKO190 AUT20

Wine Variety: Agiorgitiko is capable of producing a range of styles of wine. Most usually, those wines are low acid, soft and fruity. Planted on higher ground, it is capable of producing more structured liquids, some capable of long bottle ageing. It also produces rosé wines. It is sometimes known as the Merlot of Greece.

Wine Region: The fruit for this wine was grown in Nemea, which lies just south of the Corinth Canal in the Peloponnese. No other grape variety is permitted in Nemea and vines are grown in vineyards up to 900m above sea level.

Wine Producer: The Kokotos winery is located a short distance north-east of Athens and was started 40 years ago by George Kokotos, who had a desire to leave the city and enjoy country living. Besides the 70 acres, he also created an olive grove, an apiary and a large area for hens. In addition to growing their own grapes near their winery, Kokotos also has collaborations in Nemea with growers working with Agiorgitiko.

wine tasting notesTasting Notes:

Really quite pale in the glass. A swirl brings out very pleasant aromas of ripe, soft red and darker fruits, along with herbs and spice. The palate is just medium weight, initially of plush cherry and plum fruit that is quite quickly backed by rising structure, giving focus and direction. Length is admirable. It's overall a very tasty thing...
