NV Prosecco Passaparola, Pradio

NV Prosecco Passaparola, Pradio
ref. PRADNVO

Wine Variety: There were three Prosecco varieties, one of which has subsequently been found to be sufficiently genetically distinct to be renamed (now called Malvasia Bianca Lunga). Of the remaining two, Prosecco Tondo is far more widespread and is now generally called simply Prosecco. However, with a view to preventing other regions/countries from labeling any old sparkling wine "Prosecco" the local Consorzio has stipulated that the grape now be known as Glera. However, the name Glera is used for several different vines around Trieste, so we will stick with Prosecco. I hope this is clear!? In any event, it seems likely that Prosecco's origins lie outside Italy in the Istrian peninsula in Croatia.

Wine Region: Prosecco is planted very widely in the Veneto in northern Italy, the country's most productive wine region. The volume of both Pinot Grigio and Prosecco produced here have led to it taking top spot in production terms. As elsewhere, by far the best wines are grown on the hillsides, but a great deal of commercial, insipid liquid is bottled from flat and fertile vineyards on the plains.

Wine Producer:  Pradio is owned by the Cielo family and is now run by the fourth generation. Based in Friuli in north-east Italy, they also produce still wines from Pinot Grigio, Friulano and Sauvignon Blanc.

wine tasting notesTasting Notes:

There's a fine, tiny bubble rising through the beautiful pale liquid in my glass. Nose speaks of summer in its fruit of citrus and orchard fruit: tangerine and apple. The fruits is decked in a hint of spice and something herbal. Take a sip and there's a lovely soft explosion from the mousse. It's a dry thing of super shape and consistency in the mouth. It's long, too, and shows lovely delicacy and class. And it finishes beautifully clean, with a citrus finish. We like this. A lot.

#3wordtastingnote: citrus, orchard, clean
