Grape Varieties - Carricante

Carricante

Carricante comes from Sicily and is now known as the white grape of Mount Etna, in which wines it must make up 60% (Etna Bianco), or 80% (Etna Bianco Superiore). Grown elsewhere in Siciliy, too, where it is often blended with other white - and, indeed, red - grapes.

Potentially complex, floral and herb scented and flavoured wines. The best are capable of ageing for some years in bottle.
