Grape Varieties - Schioppettino

Schioppettino

Another grape that came within a whisker of extinction. Schioppettino is likely to come from the region around Udine in Friuli, but from where it had all but disappeared following the ravages of phylloxera. A chance mention of it led Paolo Rapuzzi to seek out vines, discovered growing in the local mayor’s garden and there are now over 100 hectares of Schioppetino in north-east Italy.
